Answers to your questions

Questions? We have answers! Here are your most frequent health plan questions.

Q: How do I receive medical care?

A: Simply select an in-network health care according to your plan and call to make an appointment.

When at the appointment, present your medical ID information using your app or on your card.

You may still receive coverage wthout your ID card as well, as long as you have your member information.

After receiving care, simply pay the health care provider according to your plan.

Q: Will I receive an ID card?

A: You will receive new ID cards for each participant at your home address. Enrollments processed after your designated online enrollment period may result in ID cards arriving later, even though coverage will be effective.

To access your ID cards, log in at clients.nextep.com, then click on My Benefits. Once you're on the benefits page, choose Insurance Cards.

Q: What is a PPO plan?

A: Nextep's flex plans offer the affordability of a preferred provider organization (PPO) plan, but with a wider, more flexible network. These plans feature lower deductibles, perfect for families or individuals who would be high utilizers of the benefit.

Watch this video for a quick overview of PPO-style plans.

Q: What is an HNO?

A: Health network option (HNO) plans offer coverage at lower costs. Get the same rich benefits you enjoy from PPO-style plans, including preventative care and prescription drugs. Since these plans are region-specific, it is very important to stay in-network.

Watch this video for a quick overview of HNOs.

Q: What is an HDHP?

A: High-deductible health plans (HDHPs) have higher deductibles and lower costs, allowing participants to put the extra cost savings into a health savings account (HSA). HSAs allow employees and their families to have more control over where their health care dollars go.

Q: What is an HMO?

A: With a health maintenance organization (HMO) plan, you must choose a primary care physician (PCP) from a network of local health care providers who will refer you to in-network specialists or hospitals when necessary. All care is coordinated through the PCP at a significant savings.

Q: What is an ACO?

A: Accountable care organization (ACO) plans take a new approach to health care. You'll have a care team that includes doctors, nurses, therapists, and other health care providers. To get the most savings out of this benefit, choose a PCP to lead your health team and stay in-network.

Q: How do I decide on a plan?

A: Finding benefits that fit your needs can be tough. That's why we offer a variety of plan designs, allowing you to find one that offers the right combination of coverage and affordability.

If you are a high utilizer of the plan, you may consider one with higher coinsurance and a lower deductible. If you and your family are relatively healthy, you may consider a higher deductible, lower-cost plan to maximize your savings.
